Glenlyon House was built probably in the early 18th century by the Campbell lairds of Glenlyon on the site of the home of the Macgregor vicars of Fortingall, including the 16th century Dean of Lismore, important as the first collector of Gaelic poetry. It was remodelled by Dunn & Watson after James MacLaren's death, again probably from MacLaren's ideas.
